Research Interests

As a recent MSc graduate, my thesis research focused on cumulative effects scoping in partnership with Snuneymuxw’s Cumulative Impacts Program to build understanding of how the past 175 years of colonization and industrial development have resulted in current environmental health conditions. My research investigated key polluting industries, contaminants of concern, ecological pathways, and exposure risks. Through this work, I have developed an interest in lifting the veil on the serious, urgent, and interconnected impacts of rampant industrial extraction and environmental contamination on health, wellbeing, culture, and the environment. I am particularly interested in the full lifecycle impacts of extraction, processing, transportation, consumption, and waste of our everyday goods, and how we as humans can find ways of understanding one another, building trust and relationships with one another, and working together on the solutions that are needed towards better health and wellbeing.

More about me!

I have been finding so much joy and hope in getting my hands dirty in the forest every weekend, learning to grow food, and integrating myself with communities of people who are working towards a better world. I share my garden with bugs, slugs, birds, squirrels, racoons and the like, and love our more-than-human wild kin. I am interested in organic regenerative agriculture, ecological restoration, and anticonsumption as major solutions to the issues created by colonial extractivism and contamination. I am also working to fix up my grandpa’s old “crazy house” with my own two hands, help from friends and family, existing and borrowed tools, and salvaged material to build skills and reduce waste. I am grateful for spending so much time in Indigenous-led spaces over the last several years, and have been reconnecting with family and building my family tree, to better understand who I am and where I come from, including through my French, Dutch, and Red River Métis lineages.
